Buying My First Car...

What is a good first car to buy? I want soimething that could last me until I am out of college (currently in 10th grade). My spending limit is about $3,000.

Re: Buying My First Car...

I would go for an older nissan, honda, or toyota. those cars will last for a really long time and all get great gas mileage. i own a 95 altima and it is a great car for the price and gets really good gas mileage. with only $3000 to spend i would definately look for one of those since it will probably be your cheapest option of the three. make sure you dont get taken for a ride though, check the car out well (possibly take it to a shop) before you buy it or you could get something that will just give you trouble. dont get something with a ton of miles either because they just arent as reliable. if i were you i would try to stay below 150,000. the lower the better. hope you find something!

I am looking on the website called craigslist. It seems like there are some nice cars for the money on here.

One more question. How is a ford taurus?

Re: Buying My First Car...

ok let me say craigslist is a great website i have sold and bought a bunch of stuff on there. but lately especially WATCH FOR SCAMMERS!! there have been alot trying to rip people off lately especially for some reason. let me tell you, only buy a car if you can come and pick it up local, see it before you buy it, and try to testdrive it before you buy it too. i would try to testdrive it and take it to a mechanic shop and get them to do a quick look at it so there isnt anything noticably wrong because some people are just idiots and try to maximize their profit selling a messed up car. NEVER EVER accept a car that the people want to send to you. it is a scam everytime. like i said go only local where you can meet them before you buy, and a ford taurus is not a bad car for a first car really, what year is it, how many miles, and how much do they want? im not really a fan of fords but thats my personal opinion.

Yeah, I am not really a Ford kind of guy either. I figured I just couldn't be too picky. I have to say, I think I like foreign cars more....

Any way, people are selling anything from 1995-2003. There was a nice 2000 in silver that had about 101k miles. It is selling for $2750. Is that a good deal?

Re: Buying My First Car...

thats not bad, always try to talk them down a little too sometimes they just want to get rid of their car. two great websites to go to to find the price of buying a used car is www.kbb.com and www.nada.com. nada i think is more accurate but those atleast will give you something to go on

Re: Buying My First Car...

I've been keeping an eye on some cars on craigslist. Tell me if I'm wrong, but these don't seem bad.

http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/cto/833932099.html

If this one had less miles I would jump on it:

http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/cto/858153051.html

And one more:

http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/ctd/861082200.html

Tell me what you guys think. Also, what is the average mileage for the following cars. Say in the year 2000...

Taurus
Civic
Intrepid

Re: Buying My First Car...

Buying a car in your price range all that matters is " condition " to outlast your investment, type of vehicle, miles, domestic or import don't come into play.

$3000. is a fair chunk to invest if you end up with a lemon, study my website fully and try to understand what I am trying to get across to the consumer, if there are area's you have problems with or don't fully understand, post them

Re: Buying My First Car...

I would buy an Opel Corsa as my first car, it's economical, light on fuel, and nice and small!

Re: Buying My First Car...

the intrepid and red taurus are both pretty good first cars you can go with either of those and if they dont have problems and you drive them well they will last a while
