Question GLi Vs. Spec V

Sorry for the question, but I'm bored here at work. Anyhow, I wanna know how the GLi would fare against the Spec V if they were to race 1/4 mile. I would also like to know how it would fare if they were both in twisties and stuff like that?

Like i said, dumb question. :-) TIA

I have never seen, ridden in or driven a Sentra, so this is based on what I have read about it.

The GLI would probably win when it comes to straight line speed and acceleration, but the Spec V is a good bit lighter then the GLI, it sits lower, so i'm not sure how they would compare "in twisties and stuff".

I've run a few in the stop-light derby. Handled them pretty well. Our cars softer suspension may help the V-spec out corner us, but you wouldn't want to ride in that Sentra!! Stiffer springs and mild lowering will even the field.

Just curious, what kind of times do you run with the GLI? I do not, and do not plan on owning a spec-v, but they are the same body style as me, so I gotta defend them

Just to compare, many people have hit 15 flat in an entirely stock spec-v, they also dominate in auto-x and pull a lateral-g very close to the mazdaspeed (not sure of the exact numbers, I believe it is up around .88-.89g stock)

I've only made 6 runs at Bradenton Motorsports Park in it, best ET - 14.81 @ 98.2 MPH. That was ringing the piss out of it! Other runs were closer to 15 flat. The somewhat soft suspension wouldn't be a hot set-up for autocross but if adapt your driving to the suspension it will go around corners surprizingly quickly. I did chase a 350Z through some twisties one day (keyword - CHASED) and while I think he may have been pushing it more than he would like to admit, transient response isn't it's forte. This car was a bit of a surprize to me after test-driving a BMW 3-series, which we also considered. It had comparable room, features, ride, build-quality, better acceleration, and though it didn't have the panache of the "label" it sure made it hard to justify an extra $8K!! It's that good, but it's a daily driver that will stay stock so I can continue to throw money at my real toy!

Not bad, they're faster than I thought. Never done much research on vw's, what engine does the GLI have?

And a 98mph trap is pretty high for a 14.8 run. Most people who et around a 14.9-15.0 trap ~91-92. A 98 trap normally goes along with a 14.2 run. Does your car just have absolutely no traction in 1st or something? If so I bet an aftermarket lsd could really help if you don't have one stock, just a suggestion.

The GLI has the new (for US) VR6-24V engine, makes 201hp.
It hits the traction control all through 1st and about half-way through 2nd if your really hammering it. Launching this car right is harder than I'd thought it would be and I used the tracion control to limit wheelspin as it still allows about 15% under hard acceleration.

After reading your post, I think you may be right as to the trap speed. The time was right but the MPH was probably lower. I'll dig-up the slips this weekend and scan them.
This clicked in my head when I thought about the Camaro's trap speed of 125...
