Great Forum! Very helpfull always to read this. New problem with my Ford Explorer. It is the front right headlight. I have replaced halogens a few times when the light fails to work. When I pull out the bulb it is blown. Glass blown. Only filament and base left. Recently replaced the pigtail, new locking collar and used the dielectric grease before snapping on to back of new bulb. It worked one time and then quit. I used the quick splices to attach pigtail. Checked the lamp and it is ok. I'll recheck the connections. Any other suggestions as to why the halogen would blow?

Usually the glass will break due to moisture getting into the headlight assembly and onto the hot glass. What are the chances someone drilled holes in the bottom of the headlight lense at some point to let water drain out?

As for the new pigtail, those quick splices are just trouble waiting to happen. For an exterior application, especially one for relatively high current, you should be using solder splices with adhesive-lined shrink sleeving to make a solid, moisture tight connection.
