help with code P1457

Hey I just got a 98 accord ex 4 cyl with a manual trans - 116k. About 2 days after I got it check engine light came on. I took it to the a Honda dealer and they pulled code P1457. told me it probably was the gas cap since i told them i just filled up the night before - however the part the tech said what it needed was the "canister and shut valve". I've read some other posts and got a whole list of stuff 1457 could be related to and 1456 is the gas cap. So my question is for $270 what are the chances the canister and shut valve will solve the problem? I kinda feel like they are shooting in the dark. They reset it and it has come on again. The car runs great, i just want the car to last for a good long time.

Also, the car shakes sometimes when driving above 60. most prevalent around 70 - 73. Is this just a tire balance issue?

And finally, dealer wants to replace front stabilizer bar (the whole thing) because it is worn and loose. is this necessary?

Thanks from a honda newb.

Re: help with code P1457

EVAP Emission Control System Leak Detected (Control Canister System)-05

That what I got for the code P1457.

Before paying dealer I would start with a new fuel cap. If you buy it from a dealer you will be sure that it is a right one. Drive with it for a while and the code may disappear.

For the sway bar I would just buy new bushings. I bough new set at Pep boys for 13 dollars.

Good luck,

Sam

Re: help with code P1457

I got a new gas cap today, and tightened it to about 15 clicks. 3 driving cycles so far and so far no luck. CEL is still illuminated. I still have my fingers crossed though. Also, i went to pepboys and they did not carry the stabilizer bushings. I'll probably buy them off the net. Thanks for the help.

I am not sure if they mean driving cycles or fill ups. Let us wait a little longer.

Good luck,

Sam

Re: help with code P1457

Took 4 days, but the CEL went off yesterday after about 200 miles (15 - 20 driving cycles). All thanks to a new gas cap. Thanks for the help.
