just throwin da idea out there....

I found a 500ci and 472ci cadi engine for about $1000 each. Now, just hypothetically speaking, what are the big changes that would need to take place to put that big block cadillac engine into my little 1980 B body?

Why? They're torque monsters, but get horrible economy and will throw the weight off at the front. There's also not a lot that can be done with them.

well yes they give no milage to speak of, but they are suprisingly light, not much heavier than a 350 sb and not much bigger, and yes, thier is very little that can be done with it, cylinders being almost square and not many people make a lot of aftermarket stuff for em, but still, just for sh*ts and giggles

The torque out of these things is incredibly and I have seen a website in the past of a guy with a 500 in a 79 Impala I think it was. Awesome!

Re: just throwin da idea out there....

I have a 472 that i pulled out of my 71 caddy coupe. It was a very dependable motor that never left me stranded.
I plan on putting it in something some day, maybe my 57 chevy.
I would put it in my 89 caprice wagon but it would not be smog legal here in calif.
While it was in my caddy, it really got that land barge moving from a stop light but lacked in the top end.
I think they are factory rated at 350 hp & 500 ft/lbs of torque.
They say the caddy motor does not flow well at high rpm's (3500 and up) due to the heads. The gas mileage was not to bad and probably got the same as my wagon on regular gas.
You will need to fab up some front motor mounts as the caddys mount differently up front.
There are some companies that do make aftermarket performance parts for the 472/500 including heads but the parts are more expensive than parts for a sbc.

Good luck with your project.

Al
