Question Seafoam ????

I have read on different forums about Seafoam. Does anyone here ever use it? If so on my 1997 Blazer LS 4x4 4.3L I decided to try it to clean the engine. I added 8 oz to 5 qts of oil as the directions said. In reading the directions I didn't see anything about how long to run it. Does anyone have an answer to how long I should run it before draining the oil & changing the filter? I added 8 oz to the gas also. I have a new fuel pump & filter that I installed a few thousand miles ago.
Anyone have any info or experience with Seafoam?
Any suggestions

Re: Seafoam ????

Sea foam is a good gas stablizer.
But as a engine cleaner not so good for engine.
I would never have put it in there to start with.
Get it out of there fast.
The best engine cleaner is good oil and filter ever so often.

Re: Seafoam ????

There are a lot of people who use it to clean the gas and oil and also the air lines (thru the vacuum lines). I usually will do one can a year or so, splitting it three ways with tank, crank, and vacuum line. I do the third into the oil and then give it a week maybe just to get around everything and then do an oil change cuz what it does clean out has to go somewhere so you might as well get it out completely.

Re: Seafoam ????

It may also clean/wipe out the rod and main bearings if used in the engine.
The only safe inside engine cleaner is good oil and filter ever so often.
History repeats itself.
Remember back when slick 50 hit the market.
It cleaned them out to.
But.
Caused a lot ofr engine to be repaced.

I'm with MT-2500 on this one. Seafoam is a great product FOR FUEL LINES and 2 STROKES ONLY. Using Gunk motor flush is even worse. If you want to turn all the sludge tucked away in hidden places into grinding paste be my guest. Old guys like me remember just changing from non-detergent oil to detergent oil killed many an engine. JMHO
BTW, about six months ago my local parts guy gave me 4 cases of Motor Flush since no one bought it after sitting on for 15 years. I split the cases with a friend and we use it in our parts washers since it's 95% Kerosene anyway.
