Carburetor spacers!!

hey eveyone, this question is about carburetor spacers - I now have a 1' inch open plenum spacer on my dual plane air gap intake manifold and i am t hinking about gettinga four hole spacer to replace it do you think it will make much difference? also i was curious what would happen if i used both the 1 inch open spacer and the 1 inch four hole spacer together, would it be the best of both worlds or would they cancel each other out? Also which way would you put them? four hole on top of the open or visa versa?

my car and engine specs are as follows:

69' Nova 355 sbc 9:5:1 comp. - Holley 4150 race 800cfm race carb. edelbrock air gap intake manifold- edelbrock performer rpm heads- lunati cam 480/480 lift 232. duration 109/107 - automatic three speed trans manual valve body, 2,500 stall - 3.42 gears. STREET TIRES

Using an open spacer on a dual plane intake is a bit incorrect. It defeats the primary purpose of the dual plane (each cylinder only "sees" half of the carb). Adding an open spacer does two things. First, it increases plenum volume, and second, as stated previously. If the engine GAINS POWER from using the spacer, an open plenum intake MAY be the best solution. Usually, the "gains" will be noticed at higher revs.

If maximum torque and drivability are the goal, using a 4-hole spacer is called for. While it too, increases plenum volume a bit, it doesn't defeat the purpose of separating the "sides".

hey jim thank you for your input, just one last question- how about using both spacers together? still increasing hte plenum for the higher rpm power but using hte four hole to keep the low to midrange, could i get the best of both worlds?

I'm afraid it doesn't work that way. The open spacer will override the 4-holer...
