97 Caravan wiper issue

Here we go again with a 97 wiper issue folks.

Started having issues with the wipers not parking and when in delay mode the wipers would sometimes make 3 or four cycles instead of one every couple of seconds.

Replaced the wiper motor and the switch off the steering wheel but have same issue so I know it was not the switch.

At times I have no wipers! All I can do is hit the washer button to get wipers to cycle. At times I can click into 1st click & get low speed wipers. All other modes do nothing.

Everything else functioning. I'll try cleaning the ground straps close to the base of the transmission dip stick (found during search).

Any other ideas? I don't think it's the two relays, I swapped and have same issue. Over 120K on the van & not sure if I want to spend >$250.00 for a reconditioned/programmed VCM.

Thanks all

Re: 97 Caravan wiper issue

I had similar problems with my 97 GC.. I also replaced the control stalk/switch and put in a junk yard wiper motor. still had problems...replaced one of the two relays in the power center and it fixed it. There are 2 relays a low speed and high speed I think I could hear the relay clicking. They only run $10 apiece...and you may be able to get one at a pull your own junkyard for nothing.

Re: 97 Caravan wiper issue

My 97 voyager wipers quit altogether. I ended up putting in a manual switch. There is another grounding ribbon on the top of the altenator bracket that goes to the fire wall and also a grounding junction on the inside of the van behind the brake peddle under the carpet at the top edge. Maybe give them a check.

Have you tried pulling the IOD fuse for a few minutes? It resets the BCM. Where? Fuse box (PDC) next to the battery.

I had a similar experince with my 96 Dodge Caravan. Wipers were erratic and then stopped functioning completely. Rebuilt the wiper switch assembly. Replace the wiper switch assembly. Replaced the wiper motor assembly. Still wouldn't function. I finally asked the dealer and they indicated it was the BCM ( Body Control Module) and it would cost 300$ to send it out for repair.

I put in a manual switch on the side of the steering column and used it for several years like that. No intermittent function and only one speed. (low) Maybe not the best solution for most people but 300$ seemed like too much at the time. I wired it direct to the battery with a fuse in-line. Crude but effective.

Obviously the relay or BCM reset suggestions others have mentioned should be tried first.

Good luck.
