abs light, traction control light

My 2000 lincoln has a ABS light and traction control light illuminated. Can anyone tell me why or how to check or codes?

I would look to see if the ABS/TRAC faults are related to a bad relay 1st!

You are going to have Fuses/Relays in the Hood,Trunk,and inside the body.

1) Fuses are in the circuit to protect control modules from damage.
''Just like a circuit Breaker in your house''

2) Relays enable larger current devices to get there juice on demand.

Example - You might only need a small signal to turn ON/OFF a device,
but the relay you enable gives the juice for control modules.

Look in your owners manual for fuses and relays,and I will keep my eyes open.

I had someone check the fuses in my car & under the hood, with a test light, that the owners manual indicated were related to the ABS. All seem to be OK? We put the car on a lift and inspected the wheel sensors for any thing obstructing the sensors and found nothing wrong?

You're probably going to need to find a shop with a scan tool that can access the ABS and Traction Control systems to determine which C, B, P, or U diagnostic codes you have. You could try first having the codes read at one of the parts stores that offer this service at no charge, but they would only be able to access the P codes most likely, and your issue may not have any P codes that would yield details into the situation.

You could also find a sandy or gravel road where you could safely test out the ABS to see if maybe one wheel locks up while the other's still seem to function properly under agressive braking. That may indicate a faulty wheel speed sensor on the wheel that locks up early.

If ABS light is ON,the ABS System will not work.

Your Brakes will work just like Pwr Brakes,but won't have the braking effect for traction.

You might want to take your car in for a free brake inspection.

1) Have them check the brake fluid,pads,and ABS sensors for wear.

Probably the quickest way at this point to determine the cause is to get the ABS codes read.

I think it's safer on a dry road going 35MPH,and putting on brakes!

CAUTION- Don't be doing this with someone behind you.

Don't pump them,just let the car stop.

You can feel each wheel taking there special time in stopping ''ABS Breaking
effect''

It almost feels like going over speed bumps ''But Not''!

No matter how aggressive you are with the break pedal,the vehicle should not skid.

Most people don't experience this safety feature until a near accident.
