Waxing Plastic Trim between doors
Greetings all,
I am trying to restore the shine to the plastic piece of trim located between the doors on a four door sedan. This is a black car and shines real nice after it is waxed, however, on this piece of plastic trim, it stays cloudy, no shine at all. I have tried a number of different products, but none seem to help. Anyone have any ideas? The vehicle is a Lincoln Town Car, the plastic strip is about two inches wide and quite noticable when you enter in either the front or back seats. Thanks in advance! |

Re: Waxing Plastic Trim between doors
Here is a trick that will amaze you. You want your black plastic trim to shine like new again? Get a can of black Kiwi show polish and pretend your shining your shoes (really!) Apply it, buff it back off. I even used the bristle shoe brush and then terrycloth. The back shoe polish will make your trim look like NEW! I have used it on all my black trim and it STAYS shine for a long time too. Black Kiwi Shoe polish .. who would have though! Try it .. I was impressed. I learned this from the mananger at the MAACO shop after I had my Chevy Metro repainted. It's what the body shop guys use. It works on engine hoses too. (You can see I went wild with it) I like a clean car. Good luck!

Thanks Dude, I will give that a try. I don't even have to go to the store, I already have some. Will try tonight when I get home from work.
Thanks again! |

Re: Waxing Plastic Trim between doors
Hey MJT .. Glad you dropped a line to let me know you got the message.
Hope you were as pleased with the outcome as I was. I even used the Kiwi shoe polish trick on my Suburban roof rack and side rub strips. That takes a lot of shoe polish too.. but wow! Hmmm .. it will probably make the top cover of my Toro lawnmower .. wait a minute .. I'm obsessing again .. How do you think it would make tires look???? (darn, there I go again ..) DangerDude |

Try Mothers Back-to-Black... a couple of light coats and a buff can restore faded trim if it's not too far gone.
