Montana 2000 wheel bearing/hub torque

Anyone know the oem torque spec for the hub nut?

also, my springs were making clunking noises at top of strut and sometimes would make my steering way off until i turned wheel completely until it clunked the other way.....on both struts..

i am replacing both struts cause both is needed..do i also need to replace

strut bearing? to solve the springs from doing this clunking or just replacing the struts enough to free the bearing?

Also what is the trick to getting the 3 mounting bolts for the strut..there is only an 1-2" of clearance and they are set way back....all my 15mm wrenches barely reach the back 2 bolts much less being able to turn them...any thoughts would be appreciated... thanks!

Re: Montana 2000 wheel bearing/hub torque

I have a long 15mm that helps. On the driver's side I take off the cruise module and remove all that stuff on the wiper arms. Its a tight squeeze.

Napa sells the bearing & plate together for $28 bucks. I did two in the last two weeks and the bearings were maybe OK if cleaned up, but the plate was rusting out on both cars. Get the package as its about same price.

You will need a dremel tool to cut away a portion of the plastic guide that stays with the spring. The new one from Napa, and another I got from RockAuto did not fit the OEM plastic guide. I spent a few minutes with the dremel and it fit up fine.
I checked, and the Napa folks show one number for the van that has no automatic leveling--that's what they stock. The number for the van with the automatic leveling is not $28 bucks but $128 and does not include the bearing. I've never seen that kit, and for that price I never will, but I'm guessing its the style that came with the two vans I replaced.

I did a '99 olds silo and a '99 chevy venture--the chevy did not have the load leveling setup. Both vans had exact same factory strut setups, but the olds had the load leveling system. What I'm saying is the replacement bearing plate kit may not fit exactly, but you can make it work.
John

PS: its way easier to change the struts while the engine is out!
