Body part question
Hey everyone. I have a completely stock 89 Civic hatchback and would like to keep it that way. There is currently one change I need to make. It never had a passenger side rear view mirror and I am finding that I need one. My question, will one off of an 89-91 Accord fit? I found one at a local salvage yard but did not purchase it. I did take it off, looked at it and put it back. It looks like it will fit. What years and models are generaly acceptable to swap body parts? Besides the obvious stuff. Thanks.

Re: Body part question
The obvious ones like a 88-91 Civic or CRX...but then you have to watch some parts that are either only 88-89 or 90-91.
The single mirror is a problem at times, but you do have a giant quarter window to look out of. My STD hatch doesn't have one and I will end up getting something to put there. My DX hatch doesn't have one either, but it doesn't need a 7th mirror either

Re: Body part question
Hello everyone,
Last night i saw a noticeable improvement in the appearance of Elzworth's hatch. And that's not to say that it looked bad when he got it! The interior and carpeting looks mine did 12 years ago. And nice job on the sand/fill/prime & paint!!! Makes me feel as though i ought to get up and work on my own ride. Get up as opposed to just sitting on my ass feeling envious. ![]() EDIT: Elzworth, Someone mentioned that they have some big junkyards in the notheast; one of which has a hatch. They might have been referring to Venango Auto Parts or Al's Orthodox U-Pull it. Besides these two i remeber other big yards which are off of State Road. You might venture a trip up there sometime. Happy hunting Last edited by skate1968; 09-10-2008 at 04:05 PM. |

Re: Body part question
Basically, no, that mirror won't fit w/o modification.. just get one from another Civic Hatch. I dont know if the CRX/4g4d mirrors fit or not... I've never had to try it.
When you take the mirror, you'll need to take the inside garnish too, else you'll have to cut a hole in the one you have for the adjuster... unless you do a power mirror swap, in which case, you can use the blank trim panel that's already there.

Re: Body part question
Skate1968? I didnt think you were that old! Back in the days when those wheels were made of steel.
Thanks to everyone else for the info. Just got back from the local salvage yard, I am dry now, downpoured the whole time and still no mirror. Though did spot a wrecked 89 or 90 hatch parked in someones driveway with a passenger mirror. Need to figure out the ethical and polite way of sayin" Now that you crunched it, wanna part out with it?" |

Re: Body part question
Simple, walk up and ask to swap with them... if its obviously totaled.. then they shouldnt have an issue with a couple extra buck before the insurance company crushes it

Re: Body part question
"Excuse me... I'd like to get that passenger side mirror off that car... I'll give you ten bucks, and I'll even put the exterior blockoff back on, so it looks stock for the insurance guy."
Seems like what I would say if I was trying to find something on a wrecked car in someone's driveway.
