low coolant?

my low coolant light comes on when i start the car in morning, sometimes right away, sometimes after a couple of minutes. the reservoir is filled to the cold line when i check it in the morning. why am i getting a low coolant light? thanks

Possibly due to either sludge buildup on the sensor element, air in the cooling system, a defective coolant level sensor or actually low on coolant at the radiator. With engine cool remove the radiator cap and physically check the coolant level directly in the radiator. Also, look for any possible sludge on the radiator cap and inside the radiator filler neck.

so say i let the car sit all night and then pop the radiator cap off in the morning. should i be able to see coolant?

Yes. About a couple inches below the top of the filler neck.
