Agggghhhhh

Heres the deal...
About 3 months ago I bought a car for my girlfriend. A 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix with 3.1L. I bough it from a guy who did the upper motor rebuild, intake, head, pushrods...everything. He put it back togeather and it started knocking real bad. I bought it from him for real cheap $600 and rebuilt the bottom end (whole new crank, main bearing, rod bearings, seals, everything. Now this car has been running great, no problems, untill Sunday. She got into an accident and ruined the car. My dilemma is that I would like to find a nice car with a junk motor. I found a great one 1996 Grand Prix loaded, knocking motor... but it is the 3.4L. I need to know what problems I would encounter by putting the 3.1L in the 3.4L car. I am guessing computer.

If anybody has any information please let me know.

Thank you

Re: Agggghhhhh

more work than you think its gonna be. you will need the computer, the whole wiring harnass, all the sensors, the transmission...all the wires for the tranny, and even if you get the car to run...its gonna be nothin but a nightmare.

i would keep looking.

Re: Agggghhhhh

wow, man, tough break. Get it all rebuilt and running good, and she total's it.

If you have the time and resources, I'd say a 3100 to 3400 motor swap is doable. You have both donar cars.

You might also just consider rebuilding that 3400 DOHC. Its a pretty quick motor. Jump on over to www.60degreev6.com they used to have tech articles on ways to modify the 3400doch to gain more HP.
