Here is my second rally car


I used a "wash" to replicate dirt underneath the car



I think it does a great job on the intercooler and the disc brakes...



As you can see on the last pic, I made my own shock but i didn't have my digital camera then... I almost can't see those parts anymore but It just feels great to know that they are there!

I had a hard time with the black-silver-red line decals. They were very difficult to adjust around the door handles. After the clear coat on the body, bubbles appered on the withe squares on each doors and I don't know why!!!!

Lovely! How long have you been modelling?

I started modeling when I was 10. Back then, I use to model mostly aircraft for fun. I stopped for a long time (about 10 years) and 2 years ago, when I finished University and started working, I gave rally cars a try. I enjoy it a lot. Unfortunately, I don't spend a lot of time modeling , I took me about 9 months to get the Lancer to that stage... maybe 6 more months and I'll be done!

My first try on car was this Peugeot :




I took me about 6 months to complete it. My next kit is the Subaru Impreza WRC 2001 from Tamiya and I would like to buy the new Revell Civic coupé...

How many hrs a week do you spend modelling?

Well, it depends of the season. During summer time, I don't spend more than an hour or 2 per week. During winter, I can spend about 4 to 5 hours per week. The problem is that I'm a triathlon addic, so I also train a lot during my spare time... How about you? How much time do you spend modeling per week on average?

Not quite sure how many hours I do spend - maybe about 5-6 hours a week.

You have the washing technique down good.
I never was good at washing, I always tried when I was kitbashing my Heroclix miniatures.

Can you tell me how you painted the bolts of the wheels?

First I painted the wheels with Tamiya TS-26 Pure White. Then, fort the bolts, Chrome silver was brush painted with the help of a small slice of the plastic bag in wich Tamiya puts all their parts. I just jam the piece of bag between the bolt and the rim. This will allow two things :

1- prevent paint from going on the white part of the wheel (just beside each bolt) because the smallest brush seems to be so big compare to those bolts.

2- it will also allow paint to spread everywhere on the bolt thanks to capilarity action of the liquid paint!

The first one will be tricky since your slice of plastic bag will tend to fall, but don't worry as you get through, it will take the optimum shape and the paint left on it will help it to stay in place

Be carful to use the slice always on the same side!!!

No need to try to put paint all the way down of the bolts, you will risk spreading paint on the white part.

The grey wash will do a perfect job to for the bottom of the bolts.

I think I understand the technique.
Could you take a picture of it anyway? I'm not completely sure how large the plastic piece should be, and how to place it.
