transmission help........

Ive got a 94' V6 Camaro (3.4L), with a Automatic Trans. and just recently while driving noticed the car would just rev untill it kicked down out of overdrive into 3rd (about 2600 RPM). I then noticed that I had no 1st gear whatsoever. My fluids are fine, and the transition from 2nd into 3rd is smooth which makes me think its not the torque converter or anything really busted inside of it.
I was told there were electric solinoids in the transmission and more than likely 1st and overdrive were on the same one and I was just wondering if there was any truth to this, and if there is how would one go about changing the bad solinoid out.

Re: transmission help........

First things first. Take the car to a REAL transmission shop and have them "scan" it. Expect to pay them for their time. If one of the solenoids (they call them "switches") IS bad, a scan will show that. If nothing shows "bad", have them pressure-test the trans, too.

I advise against taking it to a "local yokel" that would first pull it out. If they're "up" for the scanner tests, you'll be okay. If they "scoff" at scanning, RUN AWAY!!!
