98 Blazer wipers/fluid pump failure

I am having the same problem as a lot of posts concerning 98 Blazer wipers. For several months they worked intermittently and have finally died (wipers and wash fluid pump). I suspect the broken solder connection problem discussed in other posts. Now, I have never done much more than minor repairs and maintenance on cars. I would like to tackle this myself. The components seem pretty easily accessed under the hood and I can solder. (My mechanic already has made $600 this year off of me and still can't get my AC to hold freon. but thats another post...)

I have some nubie questions if someone could chime in...
1. What kinds of screws are those holding the plate on the wiper motor assembly?
2. What should I look for once I get the board out?
3. What parts can I just replace from an auto parts store.
Any other advice would be much appreciated.
Also, if anyone knows of a website where I could see some pictures or diagrams of what I will see once I dig in that would be tremendous.
Thanks in advance, Rob

Re: 98 Blazer wipers/fluid pump failure

1. Torx, t-25 if I remeber correctly
2. Look for cracked solder joints. If they are cracked you will see a fine line that circles the metal post that sticks through the solder. Hit them with a hot soldering iron and they should "reflow".
3. The plse board is avalable aftermarket, the motor is available aftermarket, and the motor / pulse board assembly is available aftermarket.

This is the pulse board. Most often the solder joints near the black connector are the ones the crack.

Red arrows point to the cracked joints on this board.

Usually if this is the problem you can twist the black connector and get it to work or stop working.
