92 ford escort...1.9 litre lifter prob

I got a 92 escort with the 1.9 litre engine ...manual tranny and a lifter went t out while driving.....got a new 1..they are the roller type lifters and they all slid right out of the bores easily except the one that went out. I cannot pull it out! it slides up about a quarter inch then seems to be hung up on somthin...any way I can get this thing out without taking off the head........or planting c-4 in the dam thing?any help would be appreciated...

If it broke then you may have some damage on the bottom side that you are not aware of... you would probably do yourself a favor to just pull the head.
