automatic hard shift sometimes

I have a 97 rodeo 2wd that shifts very hard the other morning when it was raining on the 2nd - 3rd upshift and on the 2nd- to 1st downshift coming to a stoplite. the shifts felt like the trans was going to jerk out of the car. at lunch time it did not do it and so far today shifts great. any ideas??
125,000 miles on it with a change at 80,000 on the fluid . no hard driving.

Re: automatic hard shift sometimes

When you start the car, let it sit for 30-1m before putting it into gear.

Could be your range mode sensor, there is a guide to clean it up. But I did this and it didn't work for me. Been told I just may need to replace it. Cheap 50$ part I believe. Why i've haven't done this who knows...

I have dwelt with this issue for 2 years now. All I do is let me car sit 30s-1m when I start it before putting it into gear.

99 Honda Passport 144K.

Let me know if that fixes yours too.
