Tire Valve Stem Trouble

OK guys, I have a 2000 LS V8. My passenger rear tire is low on air, no big deal right? The stems on the tires don't have the standard threaded black cap, but instead nave a steel bolt. I CAN NOT get this thing off for the life of me so I can add more air. Any thoughts? I hope I was descriptive enough for you. Thanks in advance.

Re: Tire Valve Stem Trouble

Either you have Tire Pressure Monitoring System valve stems or you have the decorative valve stems with stainless or chrome sleeves and chrome or stainless caps. Have you tried a little penetrating oil or a local tire shop that may be able help you out. It may cost you a $5 tip or so, but at least they probably won't break anything in the process, or if they do, they'll be equiped to fix it on the spot. From their perspective, if they help you out with something simple, they may cause you to consider them when you are due for new tires or suspension work.

Re: Tire Valve Stem Trouble

Yeah it's the decorative. I can't believe I can't free them up. I was really hoping to fill them tonight since I have to go 85 miles in the early morning. I did try some WD but still no luck. Thanks for the quick response however.
