91 Camaro dies when hot

Greetings,

I have a 1991 Camaro with a 305 V8 5.0L that will not run when hot (dies and then will not start). When cold, it starts and runs perfectly (until the fan kicks on?).

Have seached most of the postings looking for clues and so far I have replaced the Fuel filter, Fuel relays, and the temperature sensor, but no change. I checked the codes on the computer, and all 12’s.

I have the Fuel injectors, but I’m reluctant to put them because they cost $200 each. I am running out of ideas and money lol.

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks,

Re: 91 Camaro dies when hot

Pull the ignition module and take it to an auto parts store and have them test it. If it fails, replace it with only an AC Delco unit, the others are junk. Don't forget to use the special thermal grease on the metal side that sits against the distributor. (it comes with the module).
If the module checks good, ohm out the injectors. They should be 15-17 ohms and there should be no more than .5 ohms difference between any of them. Check them cold and hot.

$200 EACH???? Where did you get them and are they made of gold?? Is your Camaro TBI or TPI?

Re: 91 Camaro dies when hot

Thank you for the suggestions. I’ll check into them this weekend.

The car is TBI. I got rebuilt injectors from Napa; they were actually $180 each - I just rounded up.

As soon as the fan comes on, it dies. I was going to unplug it to see if it still dies when it gets up to operating temperature (thinking there was a short or something in the cooling fan circuit) but now you’ve got me thinking about the Ignition Module and an ignition problem. I’ll check for spark when it’s in the “no-run” condition.

Thanks again,

I will keep you posted.

If you can, take them back and get your money back. That price is just insane. Try these http://www.injectorwhse.com/servlet/...EVROLET/Detail http://www.injectorwhse.com/servlet/...EVROLET/Detail
At just $50 each, you'll save a ton of money.

The ones you listed sure look the same, but the website said they're for 81-83. Does that make a difference? I dont see anything listed for a 91.

Thanks for the heads up. You saved me like $300.

Re: 91 Camaro dies when hot

According to this www.carburetion.com/pdfs/injectors_tbi.pdf your engine used the same injectors as the old Crossfire injection system, which was just a dual TBI unit.
I would call them and tell them what you have and what you are looking for.

Re: 91 Camaro dies when hot

If you are concerned with exhaust flow circulation (Catalytic converter) it can be checked with a vacuum gauge, hook vacuum gauge to manifold vacuum, increase rpm to 2000rpm, maintain this speed, note vacuum gauge reading. A gradually decreasing vacuum reading may indicate a restricted exhaust system.
good luck

Re: 91 Camaro dies when hot

I have a 1991 with a 3.1 L. The engine idles well but it stalls when i give it the throttle quickly. I can ease the throttle up slowly. There was another thread in AF with the same in 2005, I think it was a lumina. It went on and on - ended up on someone else's issue - but I never saw the fix. Any ideas?

btw: I have replaced th eTPS. the TPS, IAC and MAP all have th ecorrfect voltage when HOT. I have searched for but cannot find any intake leaks. the fuek injectors recently checked out OK and i replaced the EGR ($185 btw) because th eold one fell apart.
