Failed Readiness Test
I have a 96 Mercury Sable and it will it failed emissions because it says certain monitors are not ready. So I drove the car and using my scan tool I noticed that I could get the monitors to register as ready. As soon as I shut the car off and check it again however, the monitors are all back to being not ready (except of course the three monitors that are continous and thus always ready). It seems as if my pcm has no memory. It forgets what it learns everytime i turn the car off. Is there a 12 volt constant power wire (similar to the memory wire in a radio) that goes to the pcm? I tested all the pins with the key off and i got no such power source. With the key in the on position I get 12 volts to some of the pins. Why is the pcm not storing the data?

Re: Failed Readiness Test
I would start by checking the grounds. Left front fender by air cleaner.
Upper right center of cowl. Check all fuses I/P fuse panel and engine compartment fuse relay compartment. |
