New Sound System
Well, down the road I plan on upgrading my 2001 Cavalier coupe's horrid stock sound system. I'm just looking for input on how I would go about building a custom trunk subwoofer enclosure and how to put a 6 inch speaker into the 4x6 area in the doors. I'm looking at JL Audio for subs, speakers, and amps. Also, what size are the rear speakers?

Re: New Sound System
Somewhere you could buy brackets for a 5 or 6 inch round speaker for the front panels, I'll have to find the link, but making some up yourself wouldnt be too difficult. And the rear deck speakers are 6x9s. I can't help you with Subs. I've never done anything with them. Never seemed worth it to me when I did my old Cavy's sound system and I haven't touched the premium sound system that came in my new one.
Check out www.crutchfield.com They have all you need to upgrading your system and they actually have those brackets here- http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...0823300&tp=919

Re: New Sound System
Thanks for the link. I'm gonna buy the highest quality stuff I can, little by little. Seems like a better idea than buying a bunch of stuff that's cheap. Still have no clue on how to build a subwoofer box though. I'll search it later, just finished fixing my car today.

Re: New Sound System
Yeah, I've seen them, but I'd like a layout where I can have the amps flush with none to minimal wire exposure.

Re: New Sound System
For putting the 6s in the doors. You can get adapters but for a better sound out of the speaker I would recomend making a baffle out of MDF.
Another option that I did is to use the door panel itself and mount to that. I bought a sheet of ABS plastic and used that to cover the stock grills and mounted the speaker to that. Put a ring of MDF behind the panel to hold the speaker better. I plan on putting an 8" in my doors shortly after christmas if the weather allows it. Also for prices check out this site. if I can ask. what is your budget. What is your overall goal? Getting loud, or good sound quality. here are some websites for you. www.woofersetc.com http://reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html |
