Unhappy Movie trailers will never be the same

With over 5000 movie trailers to his credit, and a recent Geico commercial extolling his talents "voice-over king" Don LaFontaine has died at 68.

Re: Movie trailers will never be the same

"In a world without me, movies will not be the same, excitement will turn into uncertainty and Keenu Reeves will no longer seem cool. But come next summer there will something new, there will be something more."

*big drums bang*

"There will be another..."

Weak I know, but in honor of the great voice man. There has been so many jokes and spoofs based on him too. So sad.

Maybe Pablo Francisco will have a rebirth in his career.

Re: Movie trailers will never be the same

This is tragic! Its like Bob Barker leaving The Price is Right, but so much worse! He was perfect, and they will never replace him.

Our only hope is that after 5000+ trailers, there is enough of his voice recorded to replicate it with a super computer. But even that wont be the same.

speaking of... Drew Carey is awful. They should SO have gone with Alan Thicke, the dad from Growing Pains.

That's a good idea , but wouldn't that open up a "can of worms" legally with the guy's estate and the payment of royalties for using his voice? I'm sure the lawyers would be all over this trying to get the most for each party's sake.

Re: Movie trailers will never be the same

There are enough people that can imitate him but still, there are times you see previews without his voice and there's something lacking.

He also recently did a commercial in our state for the NY state lottery. He's sitting in a booth with 3 other guys ,( Ed McMahon from Johnny Carson's show, an old game show host announcer, and the NY state lottery announcer.) A waitress asks what phrase they are famous for.the first one is Don LaFontaine and he says ,"In a world...", Ed McMahon says his infamous "Hi-Yo", and the game show announcer says, "This is Jeopardy!". The guy from the NY State Lottery says, "The NY State Lottery Jackpot is now..." and the other 3 bow their head knowing that the lottery guy is more famous than them for his phrase.

(You can tell I don't play the lottery that often or I'd know the difference between them all
