Question Battery drawing down

One day I was generating 14 AMPS...the next day it was 10. When I put a meter on the battery post withthe engine running it's posting -1.4 to 2.2...NOT GOOD I thought it had to be the alternator...replaced it with a new one with the same result. Any ideas

Re: Battery drawing down

Do you mean 14 VOLTS, not amps? You should first check the voltage at the battery, should be above 12.5volts, then you need to check the voltage coming directly off of the alternator, should be above 14volts. After that, you will need to check each and every wire and fuse that is in the charging circuit. Remember, the alternator needs about 11 volts or so to be excited into producing voltage itself. Meaning, if the battery is below 11 or so volts, the alternator will never be excited to produce voltage.
