I have a 1999 s10 blaser, it has approx 140,000 miles, The power brake booster blew out, i replaced the booster but now the brakes are locking up without touching the brake pedal.
1. Is there some adjustment to the rod going from the brake pedal to the booster or the booster to the master cylinder? 2. Is there something i have missed while reassembling this? |

Re: Front brakes locked up
All 4 wheels or just one?
Any abs or brake codes stored? Yes the foot brake rod to booster should have free play in it. Also the booster rod to master cylinder. Just enough free play to let the booster come all of the way back off and the master cylinder to release. Check for free play on both and post back.

Re: Front brakes locked up
Thanks for replying,
All 4 wheels were locking up, the front ones were grabbing harder than the rear. I have plenty of free travel at the pedal i unbolted the master cyl. again and the wheels were free, i was able to start it and move it with no problem. When i bolted the master cyl. up again they were locked up so i unbolted the master cyl and put a shim (.156 thick) between the master cyl and power booster and now the brakes operate normal. By the way there were no trouble codes in storage. I know the shim thing is not a good way to go but is there any adjustment between the booster and master cylinder that you know of? Or is there something else that i am missing? |

Re: Front brakes locked up
Is there a adjustment on the rod coming out of booster?
Some have a set screw in the end of rod.

Re: Front brakes locked up
There is no visible adjustment, with the master cylinder removed, i had my wife depress the brake pedal, just enough so that i could try turning the rod but it would not turn, there was nothing else i could see, The rod is a blunt point where it goes into the master cyl.
I really appreciate you sticking with me on this, i am just so out of ideas. The only thing i can think of is that maybe there is a slight difference betweeen the original booster and this remanufactured one. |

Re: Front brakes locked up
Maybe theres supposed to be a gasket that fits between the master cylinder and the brake booster

Re: Front brakes locked up
They must have gave you the wrong booster or put the wrong rod in it.
If you are good with a hand grinder you could grind it off and round off the end to fit. Measure how much sticks out from flush with booster case. And how deep the hole is in master cylinder is. If you still have old booster measure the rod out of it and make your new one the same. Let us know how it goes. Good Luck

Re: Front brakes locked up
When i replaced it I used all of the original parts, there was not a gasket nor was there a gasket with the new one. There were not any spacers, just the ones that i installed today to free up the brakes. How ever i will not rule anything out, this one has me stumped.
And i really do appreciate any and all ideas and the help, i am glad i stumbled onto this site. Thank you all!!!!!!!! |
