Buying an Intrigue with issues

I am thinking of buying an 01 Intrigue GL with 106,000 miles. I have a 99 gls with 120,000 and really like it. But the car has issues. First it is not in great shape. Not bad but not really good either. Also the seller had said that the car wouldn't start and a tow truck guy hit the starter with a hammer and it started fine and ran fine for a few months and then would not start again. It has been sitting in his driveway for 5 months he has tried to start it with no luck until yesterday and now it starts and idles but runs rough at highway speeds. I assume it is just bad fuel and he put seafoam in it and will get back to me on wether that will smooth out the rough driving. Is this thing a bad idea at $2,000. I would like it but I don't need it...

Re: Buying an Intrigue with issues

A few different things could be causing this problem. Do you know if the "Check Engine" light is on or not? If it is, then get it scanned and post the code. If there is no light on, I would start looking at the ignition switch. there are instructions on how to replace the ignition switch. I replaced my ignition switch about 3 months ago and solved my hard starting problem.

If there is no other problems, it might be worth buying this Intrigue.

Re: Buying an Intrigue with issues

you already have an Intrigue; Why do you want another one?

For $500-1000 an Intrigue is a steal. I hammered past a brand new Charger R/T in a wide open 2nd. -Of course I had the LX5 and not the other engine though. 70-->100+ mph and into the redline. Some things just get better with age.

Re: Buying an Intrigue with issues

OK got in touch with the seller again. I guess that he put a new battery in it and that is why it starts now. The issue is when he gets to highway speed and pushes on the gas it hesitates or runs rough something like that. The SES light is on so maybe I will take it for a testdrive and see what code it comes up with.,. Any ideas for this It seems odd to me.

Also when you turn the windshield wipers off they stop all the way up instead of all the way down.

Oh Yeah and to reply why I would like another intrigue is because I like the one I have so why not have two for in case.

Re: Buying an Intrigue with issues

the wiper issue is an easy fix: you need to bend the wiper parking tab back.

The hesitation sounds like a FPR. (see what the SES codes are) could be air filter, fuel filter etc.

=both common Intrigue issues.

Re: Buying an Intrigue with issues

It also could be an issue with the mass air flow sensor.
