Power windows problem

Hi Guys,
I have an '01 Xterra and my driver side window is all the way down. I tried using the switch but alls you can hear is a very faint motor noise. I kinda opened the door panel and stuck my hand in. I can move the window 3 quarters of the way up but when i hit the switch it doesnt do anything but make the motor noise. im wondering do u guys think i need to replace the motor or...? ive never worked on power windows before so this is my first time. is this something i can do myself or should i take it to the dealer?

Well I tried checking it out myself but it looks to complicated. Also for some reason my door wont open, lol. Im just gonna take it to the shop and get it fixed and then im gonna trade it in. This vehicle has so many little problems. Never had a problem with the engine but all the window dont work. changing the plugs is a pain and alot of interior stuff is falling apart.

sounds like the window regulater is broken. it's a problem on some of the older Xterra's.
I have an '01 and I replaced 3 of them so far.
It's not hard.. really. take your time and do it when it's warm (so the door panels come off easier)
the reg. should be around $121.12 ,but ask of a deal because Nissan knows that there a problem.
I got mine for $88.41

Hey Perry thanks for the input. Thought there was nobody on this site anymore. Well I took my Xterra to the local dealer and it turns out its a recall. They replaced all four power window regulators free of charge. They even washed my Xterra for free and cleaned my rims. Not bad. So I guess Im gonna keep my Xterra but Im eyeing a Quest. Thanks again.
