Problems Valve job

My car is idling very rough now after i did the valve job. I'm posting in case its something besides my spark plug. The scan tool is saying that cylinder #2 is misfiring but I pull the plug wire and can detect a decrease in power. put when i pull the plug for the #1 spark plug no decrease in power or when i pull the injector plug. I tested this on several spark plugs and the engine stumbled on all of them except #1 but the scan tool says cylinder #2 is misfiring make no sense to me. I did drop one of the spark plugs could this be a possible cause.

Pull the # 1 wire and check the resistance. It is only about 18 in long, so the resistance should be no more than 1500 ohms. The plug you dropped, where did you install it, # 1 or #2? Remember, # 1 is on the front (passenger side) and # 2 is on the back (passenger side)!

Re: Problems Valve job

I solved the problem. It was the #1 spark plug. I pulled the spark plugs wires and it was the only one that didn't make the engine stumble worser. I guess it was the one I dropped and I didn't pay attention when I put it back in. I'm glad I did because I had the wrong torque numbers for the rocker arm screws at first.

I bought another spark plug in case it was damaged. Now she's running as smooth as ever. What I don't get is why would the scan tool say cylinder #2 was misfiring when in fact it was #1 does the computer see the cylinders in a different order or something is wrong with my scan tool?

Hopefully my oil consumption goes down some even though I did one side. Theoretically It should burn half-as-much now.

The firing order is 1-6-5-4-3-2 and # 1 should fire immediately after #2, but in your case, # 1 was completely grounded; so therefore, a misfire was not possible, hence the false indication as to what cylinder was at fault.

Funny thing about gravity, when you drop a spark plug, the heavy end (electrode side) will (9 out of 10 times), hit first! The lesson learned here is; never drop a plug and install it without looking at it first!
