ZC, what all do you need for sure?!??!

ok, before you guys get mad cause this has been beat to death a billion times, i just need to know EXACTLY what I need for the swap, if you don't know EXACTLY what i need don't say anything, i'm ordering parts as we speak, and I really don't what to have to send it to the shop with a missing part that i should of ordered and have me wait around with out a car for 3 weeks.

ok, with that said, here we go.

first off this is going in a 1989 honda civic DX

the engine is a DOHC ZC engine.

its the long block of Hmotors.com, it comes with he following

- Motor
- Intake Manifold
- Exhaust Manifold
- Injectors
- Fuel Rail
- Throttle body
- Alternator
- Distributor

i am also going to buy the ZC transmission on Hmotors for it as well.

and the ZC ECU for as well.

that is all I am going to buy so far, if i need more parts or i am missing something PLEASE TELL ME!

thanks for your time.

YOU WILL NEED to modify the wiring harness. YOU WILL NEED a pm7 ecu. YOU WILL NEED to put the engine in there and the gears arent "Better" on the Si trany they are longer. ZC tranies have lsd and top out @ 110, can you say close mission?!

more stuff..

If you can get the ZC ECU (PM7), get it! The PG7 is a US 89 Integra ECU, the popular alternative, although the JDM ECU is the best.. (this section has been edited after 91zc pointed out my blunder )

A ZC tranny is good too, but some peeps don't like it cuz the gearing is short (which means high revs for highway driving) I don't think they all have LSD tho...so you'll have to do some research on that.

Since you have a DX, you have DPFI so you will also need an injector resistor box from any MPFI Honda of similar vintage (i have one from a 92-ish Accord) and although the plugs don't match up to the Civic injector plug, you can cut the plugs off and match up the wires if you can't find a wrecked Si to get one with a matching pulg...these are also usually available on ebay for $25-30.

I would also recommend you show up at the shop with a new OEM water pump, timing belt and new ignition wires. These items tend to rot and you never know how long your ZC was sitting before you get it. It probably won't hurt to replace your alternator belt too...

alternator belt - 91 CRX/Civic Si
Plug Wires - 89 Integra
Water Pump - 88-91 Civic/CRX Si
timing belt - 88 Prelude 2.0 Si

If you don't have another source here are some links for OEM parts.

sure dude...I have all this stuff, sitting in a box waiting for me to install it - I haven't done any of the wiring yet either, so even if you take it to a shop that knows what they are doing it won't hurt to have a wiring diagram.

A little ECU info

PM6 88-91 Civic/CRX Si ecu
PM7 88-91 Civic/CRX Si(JDM) ecu
PG7 88-89 Integra ecu

These all can be used to run the ZC.

also it wouldnt hurt to replace your motor mounts also. you have to remember the rubber (what ever it is) wears out over time, and your putting a heavier engine in its place so that might be a good idea. also i didnt see starter on our list, also i have been told you need either a zc wire harness, or an SI harness. also about the tranny, you should be able to find an SI tranny cheaper than the ZC, and like they said it better also.

hope everything goes okay!!

The Si tranny isnt neccessarily better but it is definitely much easier to swap in. If you were to get the ZC tranny, you will need to also swap axles. With ther Si tranny you keep the axles you have now. Just some food for though.

Ya fucker! J/K you can get the PM7 Ecu for $200 refurbished from nipon motors... This is THE only way to go as far as Im conserned... Unless the extra 7 hp and 2 tq isnt apealing to you?

The motor mounts are urtheane and like you said definatly a good idea to get new ones... Dont be cheap when it come to this becasue you can actualy get more HP/TQ from having strong mounts by keeping the engine in a good grip. Of course it wont do shit for you if your mounts are already fine, but ya know...
The ZC tranny is actualy better in my opinion! Do you want an economy car or a fast car? Or both?! Here is the deal, with the ZC LSD trany you will top out @ 110 Mph, I know it aint that fast BUT you will get there WAY before a B16A because it tops out @ 160 Mph (JDM LSD of course) With only 800 more rpms... This has been tested by myself and others and is known to be true. Now the USDM Si trany will only get you to 110 WITH the A6 motor... Wehn you put the ZC up to it which has a 7200 redline instead of the a6's 6800 you are lookin at toping out around 140 or so... NICE! But althoe you will get there faster than the A6 would because of HP, you wont get there near as fast as the ZC trany and probably wont be able to keep up with the B16's... The winning ticket is the ZC trany with the A6's tranies final drive. This alows you to keep the lsd have awsome acceleration and still have 5th gear to get you to that 140 and have better highway milage with less rpm's.....
My $2.00

BTW you need integra axles for the ZC trany... UNLESS you can get ZC axles which would blow my fucking mind!
