Water pump

Mine has started the death squeak so I will be changing it very soon. It looks pretty easy and straight forward, does anyone whom has changed one on the 2.2 ohv no of anything I should be aware of before getting started?

when i did mine i removed the alternator and reservoir for extra room, both of those are very easy to remove. it made the job very simple

If you have already changed the pump, good for you. These 2.2s can be a real pain to change stuff on. I havent had to change a pump but i have replaced the tensioner, idler and belt and it helped me in a big way to put a jack under the rear of the engine with a phone book between the jack and the motor itself and disconnect the coolant bottle, and the front motor mount and jack the motor up a bit. It gave me so much more room and made the job so much easier. Thus far no leaks or knocks or wierd stuff like that has resulted from it.

I changed it out yesterday. I just removed the reservoir it wasn't the worst one I've ever done but everyone's ideas made a lot of since once I got started. I also changed the T-stat while I was at it. The water outlet's lower bolt was a real pain I had to use a very long ratchet extension and go behind the exhaust manifold (took it off only to replace the gasket this is not a necessity to change the T-stat on the 97 2.2 OHV). She is running cool as can be now. One tip I have is when your ready to fill it back up with coolant fill the reservoir than let it set for a few minutes for the air to find its way out and top off again, I did this about four or five times before the level stopped dropping. Sounds obvious but I have read storys about how hard these things are to remove all the air pockets and this may relieve those issues.
