85 f150 DRIVES FOR A LITTTLE BIT AND THEN SHUTTS OFF
I have a 1985 F150 with a 302 fuel injection. I drive for a little bit and then it shuts off. I let it sit for 20-30 minutes and it will start and run again. Also when I put gas in it will take a few gallons and shoot out a little like the tank is full. I stop and start again and it will fill up. Are they related and how do I fix it.

Re: 85 f150 DRIVES FOR A LITTTLE BIT AND THEN SHUTTS OFF
Their is a module on the side of the distributor that heats up and will shut down the truck. Auto Zone or Advanced will test these free. Sometimes you need to use a hair dryer and heat them up to find the problem. Take a 12 volt test light and put it on the coil negative and have somebody else try to start the truck the light should blink. If it doesn't replace the pickup in the distributor as these also heat up and will shut you down.
For the fuel tank check the vents for the tank I think you have a problem in this area. Search the other threads I think it was an expedition of crown vic. Look at the vapor canister their is a filter on the bottom. I've replaced the filter and sometimes the canister. |
