2004 cavalier wiper problem

the driver side wiper will not move, passenger side works OK still. I took the plastic cowl off, and the driver side arm has become disconnected from the wiper transmission arm. there is a white plastic cap that holds the wiper arm to the transmission arm, and i put it back in, but it just fell off after using the wiper for a few cycles. I cant seem to find a fix for this, anyone have any suggestions??

Re: 2004 cavalier wiper problem

Wish I was home to look at the spare I have in my basement.

Might need a new retainer clip.

I am guessing the retainer clip is the white plastic piece that holds the two arms together. I am guessing also that it is going to be a dealership-only part and they probably want like 50 bucks for it...

Re: 2004 cavalier wiper problem

As I recall you can't just purhase the clip seperatly...you have to buy the whole assembly which IMO is wasted money. Your best bet would be to go to a junk yard and pull the arm with the bad clip and replace the arm. I'm not sure what yur local yard will charge but had the same problem with my '95 Cavalier and picked up an arm for 5 bucks...Hopefully you got it fixed the cheapest route but just throwing in my two sents in case yu haven't repaired it yet.

Re: 2004 cavalier wiper problem

I notice its been a couple years since this question was posed. Same thing happened to my 2004 Caavalier last night in a downpour (wouldn't you know it). Anyone got a verification of what the problem is? And how do you remove that wiper arm? I get the nut off but can't get the wiper arm off the stud.
