Exclamation '94 VW Jetta III unknown part name

This part is broken from the bottom. I have no clue what the hell it is called. Chances are I have heard the name of it but have never connected it with this part. Anyone know what the hell it is called so I can replace it? lol XD

well I tried to get the image but it wasn't working. The part is a round black plastic piece. Looks to be attached to a coolent pipe and the air intake. Stist right on top of the engine. Top left looking at it.

My jetta is a 1990, & is different on the top - but one way to get an image that folks can examine is to post a picture on a site like www.photobucket.com or www.flickr.com, and include the link in your text. Like this:
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...gineIntake.gif
Copy the link and put it into the url of your internet browser to see the pix.
I got that pix by doing a google search for 'images' using the 3 words
"+1994 +jetta +engine". I hope whoever is the owner doesnt mind.
If you are talking about the circular black item that is lying horizontally atop the cam-cover, to the left of the inlet air casting, and having a fat hose connecting it to the tube running down the front of the engine.....I dont know what it is called either, but I think it has to do with the PCV system. I would look for one in the junkyards, since I doubt its a part that wears out enough to be stocked at auto parts places.
And you can print out the photo and take it along to show what you want.

w00t, you are 1337!!!!! What you said led me to this: http://www.car-stuff.com/exclusives/...ent_valve.html That os the part!!!!!!!!

So, what would happen if I just left that broken, could that be responsible for My oil alarm going off because there isn't enough pressure? The damn car doesn't overheat though lol.

I dont own a car new enough to have an 'oil alarm' other than the idiot light. I suspect its not vital to engine life. So if its not spreading oil mist all over the top of the engine, you could let it go. I would eventually fix it though; as soon as I found a cheap used part. Thats the sort of item you can sometimes get for free in a pick-n-pull yard when you also get an alternator or air filter housing off of a car.

Re: '94 VW Jetta III unknown part name

Sorry about the 'oil alarm' thing lol. It's the oil light. It only comes on when it seems there isn't enough rpms. It's odd. I have to drive the car, for example, one gear range higher than the gear I am in. (i.e. when in 3rd I have to have the rpms/speed as if in 4th) If I am in nuetral it's fine, only happens when there is a load on the engine. It also doesn't seem to happen in reverse either. Then again I don't go long distances in reverse either. I was wondering if this because of a leak somewhere? Checked the oil pan, can't seem to find anything. I brought it a mechanic and they said they replaced a seal or valve or something (it was a small job, about $100 parts/labor) and the leak seemed to have stopped. But then it started leaking again from the same area. It leaks from behind the right front wheel. So somewhere between the middle of the engine compartment to the back of the right front wheel well is the leak. Any ideas on that?
