Problem with gas gauge.

For the last two full fill-ups My gas gauge has gone down really fast as compared to normal. It will say 3/4 with only 70 miles on it. It will continue to drop faster than normal and then sit well below the empty mark. I know that I usually get well over 300 miles on a tank so I keep driving it for at least a hundred miles the whole time the mark is below empty.

Does anyone know what can be causing this?

Sounds like something is going out on the sensor maybe. Take out the backseat and unplug the plug in the middle. Needle should drop to empty. Then fill it up and plug it back in and watch if it does it again. If so, I'd say it's time for a new sensor. Check on eBay because I'm pretty sure you can get one for dirt cheap for a parts car.

Re: Problem with gas gauge.

The gas guage sensors in these cars are notoriously horrible. My '99 sensor was dying already when I bought mine back in '05. Mine was not yet that bad, but I could only get about 200 miles before it would say empty when i knew I had a lot of gas left, and when I went to fill up it would put in like 8 gallons.
