Water Pump Replacement

How difficult is it to replace the water pump on my 93 1.0 L 3 Cyl? Ii have a repair
manual but it leaves out details. Are there any surprises that I might run into ddoing this myself? I have done my own mechanical repairs on cars for years but not on my geo. I have had pumps changed by my nechanic in the past. My problem with working in the Geo is that I am 6ft 4" tall and its hard to bend over that far to work on a car so low to the ground. Old back you know!

Do you have to remove the crank pully to retime the timimg belt? My belt is new and doesn't need replacement.

Re: Water Pump Replacement

It is best to remove the belt and pulley for ease of access and to avoid getting it wet or dirty. Be sure to line the timing marks up before removing the belt. As long as you don't move the pulleys after taking the belt off you won't have to line them up again. Just be sure they line up once the belt is replaced. Good luck...

Re: Water Pump Replacement

Hey,
Whenever I replace a water pump or timing belt I do both at once since, as you know, you're already in there! I've owned 2 Geos and a Suzuki Side Kick (my favorite vehicle to date, I got 196,000 mile out of that little truck until the body and frame rotted away), they both use the same type engines. The only difference being the engine displacement size. If you have any other questions about your Geo let me know. They're really good little cars. E-mail to: [email protected] --- Peace, Jegas
