speaker questions

I have a 1999 GT with the stock deck which is cd player with the 7-band equalizer. I was replacing the rear speakers and noticed that the new speakers only have one connector where the stock speakers have 2 connectors. and when i spliced the speaker wires the sound was all bass and no highs. so how can i get this so that the speakers work like they should lol. also i am getting a new deck its a clarion with 52W X 4 channels. should i go ahead and remove the stock amp and would that make it sound better? please help and thanks in advance.

Re: speaker questions

Yeah this is tricky! If you notice your stock speaker it has two plug ins one for the bass and the other for the highs which actualy piggy back on the speaker cone.
You want to keep the polarities right if not you'll get a high pitched sqeel or a hum.

I removed the tweeters from my stockers and installed them under the face place, bolted to the rear deck(metal part) and just used the bass to my 6x9s. They are just held on with a phillips screw thru th emagnet.

AN after market stereo will work with the stock wiring but sounds better IMO with a new set of wires.
Thats been my plan but the stereo I want is just too expensive right now.

I think thiers a wire diagram in the Tips and Maintenance section that might help.

Re: speaker questions

Sorry about that, if you remove it your system wont work unless you do a bunch of splicing on the wires from and to the factory amp... should be 3 plugs on it.

If you were going to do that, I'd just unplug it and run new speaker wires. That way you have a straight forward solid system , instead of the screwy GM syst.
