Arrow Buying my first car! Needing advices! (Thinking about a BMW)

Hey guys!

I just graduated from university and now it's time for me to buy my very first car! =)
I'm 22, and the only car I've been using for the past 3 years is my parents SunFire 2005... An automatic.
Now that I’m finally out of school and finally working (I'm an actuary), I'm looking to get something a little more exciting and funnier to drive than a ******* SunFire... However, I’ve never really been too much into cars… so that’s why I need advices from you guys ;P
Here’s my situation/profile:
I live in Canada (Quebec, Chalevoix to be more precise) so there’s quite a bit of snow during most of the year where I live… so I was thinking about getting an AWD vehicle.
Also, I’ve really always liked BMWs so I was thinking about getting an used BMW 325XI, 328XI or 330XI between 2000-2004. I’d like to put under 20 000$ if possible for the car.

So now here are my questions :
What do you guys think of BMW?
I’ve red a bit about BMW and some ppl on forums say that BMW owners are mainly douchebags and assholes… is it a very spread conception?
Are those good years (2000-2004) for this model (3xxXI)?
How’s the consumption on those cars?
How much should I expect to pay per year for repairs ‘n shit?

If you have another car to suggest, feel free to do so but for now I’m really leaning toward a BMW.

You made me laugh " take that as a compliment " yes I agree somewhat that a fair number of BMW"S are parked in driveways to impress the neighbours with a label while not having a pot to p*** in.

Personally I think the BMW is one of the best made automobiles, but should the vehicle have issues you better have deep pockets, maintenance - labour and parts is way above average cost.

I know your area quite well, and my choice to handle those long winter months would be an SUV - AWD like the Ford Escape, excellent on the pocketbook and very reliable, on the other hand, if I was your age the beamer sure looks good.

Buying any vehicle is about getting value that outlast your investment, study my website for a few pointers, and when you find a vehicle that your really considering ,provide a link to view and I will give you my input to help you along getting value for your bucks..

i would go with awd if i were you. bmw is nice but can start to cost an assload when stuff goes wrong believe me. i work at a car maintenance shop and the mercedes, bmws, etc. that some in generally are more of a pain in the ass and more expensive to fix. most owners are very anal too haha but they are great just dont beat it to hell or the costs will start catchin up really fast

I think its great that your looking for some help in buying your first car. The kind of car is totaly up to you, my suggestion to you is to make sure of the things to look for when buying a pre-owned car. You can get this info as I did, by checking out a video atlink removed by Moderator-unauthorized advertising

I checked out the website, the layout is great, the video tells you all about problems that could arise,,, and that MR Elvin Pool you want money for answers to solve ?
I personally think your were or are a failure not having made the grade like I did to provide free answers to the consumer.
In my book your a nickel and dime con artist.

PS... I hope the moderator dont delete your website, I would like for all to see how you talk about nothing only to want coin for answers.

Re: Buying my first car! Needing advices! (Thinking about a BMW)

well I once lived in Minnsota and we got alot of snow there. I don't know what its like where you live, but a car with AWD is really a good idea. I would also look into a good set of snow tires. I had a 2003 Subaru WRX and it worked really well in snow, because i had snow tires on it. If you are looking for a good AWD car look at the Ford Fusion V6 SEL AWD or the Subaru of your choice because any one over 2002 comes with AWD. I think that some BMW with AWD are good but some times they brake down but that happens with all cars and trucks. That is how it works. You by a car and you have to work on it all the time. You have to mantain your car anyway. So keep the AWD in mind and just find something that you like or you fit in or what gets you around where you live. Just find something for you.

AWD and 4X4 for life.
