Haunted 1998 F-150/Doors locking

My F-150 will lock the doors by itself after you have gotten out of the truck and closed the door. The keys can be in the ignition or not in the ignition. It doesn't seem to do it immediately. It will wait about a minute or two and then the horn will honk and the doors will lock. Then a couple minutes later the horn will honk again. Is there a sequence I can use through the ignition and lock to rectify this issue?

Where should I start looking?

Thanks!
Darryl

if you have any type of aftermarket alarm, start there. if not, try taking your remotes far away from the car and see if thats cures it. maybe you have a bad remote receiver or a bad g.e.m./or security module? i say this because, if you hit the lock button twice it locks and honks.

Re: Haunted 1998 F-150/Doors locking

Thanks! I don't have an alarm so that's out. I also spoke with an ex-Ford mechanic this morning and asked him if it could be the remote as well. He said what you did, so at least we are thinking along the same lines. I will try taking it away from the truck and then a new battery in the remote.

I'll let you know what I find.
Thanks for the help!
Darryl

Re: Haunted 1998 F-150/Doors locking

I've seen issues with the fuse block inside these f150 dealing with the RAP module. There's a reinforcing bar inside that is mounted above the fuse panel. With extreme weather conditions water can drip off of the metal bar and onto the fuse panel causing a whole host of issues. I had a customer come in with simular problems that later prgressed to the battery being drained and not being able to roll down the driver's window but you could roll up and down the passenger side window even with the key off. Ford dealer blamed me with my remote start unit. Took the RAP module out and the back of it was corroded something fierce. Replaced the whole fuseblock assembly and then everything was fine.

Re: Haunted 1998 F-150/Doors locking

I replaced the battery in my remote lock/unlock controller and so far that has eliminated the problem.

Thanks AF folks!
