engine replacement for 97 PA

i truly believed that my 97 PA would last me well into the 200,000 mile range, until it spun a rod on me only a few days ago. it had 134,000 miles on it. the mechanic suggested that i replace the engine with a used engine that has about 50,000 miles on it. with the car being 11 years old now, should i replace the engine or begin looking for another form of transportation? since everyone here is intimate with the park avenue, i would greatly appreciate your thoughts and ideas.

everything else on the car seems to be alright still, although, as with any older car, i've already been replacing things here and there. (oh, yes, the nickel and dime dilemma....)
