Exhaust

So I have a 1998 chevy 1500 and i have purchased a cat back magnaflow exhaust about a year ago. Im not very happy with it it is not very loud. So i was wondering if i cut out the muffler and replaced it with just 2 pipes what it would sound like. Good or Bad tell me what you think i should do that is pretty cheap.

Thanks

Re: Exhaust

I don't know about where you are, but in my neck of the woods she won't pass inspection without the mufflers in place, be careful. I've had a Gibson 3" single cat-back on my 91 e-cab and a Flowmaster dual 40's cat-back on my 92 reg-cab. Different size truck but same motor and tranny combo's. The Flowmaster gives the best sound but I believe the Gibson gave the best performance, and the sound would kick in a little when you stomped on it.

Also, the cats are an integral part of the emissions on the truck, can't remove them without affecting the perfomance of the engine, not to mention illegal as H@## to do. Again, be careful...

As for the Magnaflow, do you have the single side exit or the dual rear exit system? The dual exit should have better sound and the single side exit will be more tame on the decibel level but should still give you great performance.
