Fuel injector wires mislabeled?

It's a 98 Grand Am 3.1L. I was doing some work on my car and when I went to pull the injector wires, I noticed that they were all hooked up not to their corresponding numbers. The wires that were labeled 1, 3, and 5 were hooked up to the injectors labeled 2, 4, and 6. 1 to 2, 3 to 4, and 5 to 6. And the same vice-versa. I don't understand because the car has been running fine and to my understanding, the car shouldn't run if they were hooked up backwards. But that's how they were hooked up. I have also noticed that I am not the first one to do major work under the hood because the original manifold gaskets have been changed. So I don't know if the last person hooked them up wrong, or if it was a screw up by Pontiac. Anyone have any input on this?

Re: Fuel injector wires mislabeled?

Are you sure the plugs are on the wrong injectors? The injectors themselves aren't labeled, just the manifold, and the cylinder numbers are cast on the top of the runner while the injector for that cylinder is on the bottom.
Also if the injectors are firing a little off, the fuel vapor will still be there when the valve opens so it should still run ok, especially at higher rpms.
