Unhappy 94 Grand Prix will not start

Change steering column with key on 94 Grand Prix will not start. Turn key on buzzer comes on and accessory lights come on but will not do anything else motor will not turned. Old steer column the key was lost and lock busted. Called dealers and not one dealer gave me same answer as other. i was told I had to tow car to dealer to reprogram BCM to match key I have. . I was told take key to dealership have them check my vehicle vin# to get coded key # and cut it to the key I have . I was told I had to change the lock and key to the number key of my vehicle. Please help I do not know what to do. Thanks.

Re: 94 Grand Prix will not start

it sounds like a BCM needing to be reprogrammed, but I'm not sure 1994's had BCM's.

Will it start in neutral?

If not, turn the key to run, (make sure its in park) and use a screwdriver or something to jump the two terminals on the starter to force it to crank the motor over.

I realize you might have a typo here, but you are saying that you can not put the car in park and you can not put it in neutral. No wonder it won't start. It must be in one of those two positions to be started.

Re: 94 Grand Prix will not start

I don't think the 94's had a BCM.
You need to have a key cut that has the same resistance pellet as the original key.

It also sounds like something else is wrong if you can't get into neutral. Did you have your foot on the brake?

Re: 94 Grand Prix will not start

I called four different dealships and they all gave me different answers. How ever one did tell me to do what you said about cutting a key to match the oringinal resistance pellet. How ever another dealership told me that will not work that i had to bring it in to dealership to reprogram bcm. If you think that will work I will try it. Is there anything I could have done wrong installing the new steering column that will cause transmission not to move out of park. And could the transmission being locked in park could have something to do with the car not turning over. Thanks.
