Re: 94 grand prix GTP runs real hot/overheatin. replaced pump and thermostat, still ho

Hi and welcome to AF. Are your cooling fan(s) coming on when they should be? Do you have any SES lights? You could have air in your cooling system that will cause overheating as well. Be very careful letting your engine get that hot, it doesn't take much to do damage.

Did you bleed the air out when you refilled the cooling system?

Air pockets will block coolant flow and cause overheating.

EDIT; Nevermind, typed too slow.

have you looked and seen if fans are running as the other guy told you? if they run you may have clogged raidiater or head casket leak radiater is circulating isn't it. do a compresion on all cyl. really souds like head gasket.but check plugs a compresion test.i doubt be cadlitic converter but need check that also. just go from there see what show's up.

also to get both fans to run i have to have ac or heater on, and sometimes that doesnt even help.

if you replaced water pump then radiater is not circulaiting? then i would think head casket or could you have got timing off after replacing water pump.

You can also make both cooling fans turn on by simply unplugging the ECT sensor for the ECM. (sometimes there are two, one for guage and other for ECM). Unplug it, and start the car. Within a few minutes, the ECM will kick on both fans as a failsafe because it lost the ECT signal.

If the fans dont come on, check out the fuses, and maybe swap the relats around. Could also check for voltage at the fans.

Sounds like your next step should be to take a look at your coolant temp sensor. From the sound of it you've tried everything else. Good luck.
