Unhappy Did a rebuild on my 1.0L now runs rich.

My newly rebuilt 1.0L is running very rich it's blowing black smoke & fouling the plugs ( I'm on my 2nd set and haven't left the driveway yet.)

Installed new thermostat, air filter, cap, rotor, plugs and wires at time of rebuild.

I installed a new o2 sensor 3 or 4 months ago so it should still be good.

I can't find any vacuum leaks and no ECM codes.

Does any one have suggestions of what may be causing this problem?

Late 94 1.0L 5 Spd

Tanks,
W00dy

I don't really know what to tell you but it doesn't sound like a simple problem like vac lines or sensors if it's that bad. Be sure your timing belt is set properly. Maybe it's so far off it's not burning up the fuel in the cylinders properly. The timing is kinda hard to set on these things if it's like mine and the crank has to be lined up to that bolt. I added a photo below if it can help. Does it run hot or any other problems? Your fuel injector may be dumping too much fuel in too. It's really hard to say and there are a few possibilities...

Thanks, Doug.
I took a look at the timing belt and the sprockets are lined up with the marks on the block and head.

I think I will try putting the old O2 sensor back in and see if that works.

Re: Did a rebuild on my 1.0L now runs rich.

Point a timing light down the throttle body while it's running and look at the fuel spray pattern. It should be a cone of mist. Turn it off, then back on without starting, and look down there with a flashlight. There should be no gas at all. If either one is bad, you need an injector. Could also be the fuel pressure regulator, mounted right next to the injector. FPR can be tested by measuring the fuel pressure in the line going back to the tank.

Re: Did a rebuild on my 1.0L now runs rich.

WOOHOO FIXED!

I was not getting vacuum to the MAP sensor.

Somehow I forgot to clean out the vacuum port that is under the throttle body on the intake manifold.
It must have gotten completely plugged up when I was cleaning the inside of the manifold with a bottle brush attached to my drill.

So I'm thinking next time I'm checking for vacuum leaks I should make sure I have vacuum to leak. LOL

Thanks all,
W00dy
