1996 F-250 fuel filter...

Hi all. Hope someone here can help. I've been fighting with the fuel filter on my F-250 for hours trying to remove and replace it. I've got the special tool (shown here)http://www.fordf150.net/howto/fuelfilter.php and after a hile I finally got the front line to come off. However, it seems that no matter how hard or what I try, I cannot remove the rear fuel line from the filter. Does nayone have any ideas on what I might be doing wrong or what else I can try?

you have to have the tool just right or it will not release. When I changed mine it took well over an hour to get the rear line to release. The key is to be patient and not lose your cool. When you least expect it it will pop off

lol, Thanks. That's what happend with the front one. However, there is very little room for play on the rear. I can't mess with it anymore tonight due to the fact that my arms are tired from reaching up in there for so long and that my hands need the break....they look like raw hamburg at this point. lol

I read a post the other day from someone that said they cut the filter tube off at the filter, then worked it off from there. Sounds like it would work, but dont know if I would try it or not

That thought crossed my mind but I decided to take a breather instead. If I do that I'd probably never get the piece out. Then I'd be replacing alot more than just a filter lol.

when you get the tool in place, try to push the filter towards the line to help release it, then pull away. might work.......worth a try or two..

I tried that too. Won't be doing anymore tonight. It's really got me ticked and if I keep going then I WILL do something stupid. Would be nice if they had put the setup on a more accessible section of the frame rail. Ya know.

Thanks again. BTW, let me know if you find out what's wrong with your truck. I've got the same problem. (hence the new fuel filter). different motor though. I've got the 7.5L big block. It's great on gas....lol NOT!! Other than that, my truck does the exact same thing.

Spray some P-B Blaster around it and push the tool towards the filter and pull the hose end. Wiggle it around it should come right off. They have a spring release the tool pushes the release up so the filter ridge will slide out. You must have some corrision in this area.

Thanks rhandwor, I'll give that a try next time I have time to do some work on it (hopefully this weekend). I'm gonna have to get it running right soon though....winter's coming.
