Year ?? Engine ??

Certain codes will cause the tranny to go into "limp" mode which increases line pressure. Need to have it scanned by a trans capable scanner to see what codes are set.

just because i brushed on this while having my truck in a repair shop. they have been working on another GM vehicle, that had transmission problems due to leaking radiator. yep!. mechanic told me that if engine overheats, ECM puts trannie into a "limp mode". allegedly, that car had leaking radiator and that was causing the trannie havoc.

I seen this on a mid 90's tahoe..bad solenoid.....this can be checked out with the proper diagnostics...

I would have the DTC readout for tranny.

the solenoid had bad solder joint [MADE IN MEXICO]

Re: hard shift Automatic trany

What is the condition of the fluid? That is one thing to check,if it looks like motor oil and smells bad, smoked clutches. If it pink, that is good.Pull the pan and look for metal shavings which is not good either. It could be a broken part in the transmission.GM did a screw up in the 700R4 and 4l60Es and it is in the direct clutch drum.GM put in 5 black springs and the aftermarket found problems with them, restrict the clutches from floating and later on burn one clutch up with the other clutches doing the same thing.GM says to put them back in and the aftermarket says throw them away. The aftermarket is right.

the transmission is slipping so the pcm/computer commands max transmission pressures...

drop the tranny pan clean replace fluid/filter and cross your fingers...in addition completely replace all the tranny fluid and use the new dexronVI...this fluid is designed for our transmissions dexron III is found to be causing this type of problem as well as other issues like sticking solenoids etc...

give us some feed back with this,,,also never tow in 4th gear.... using the tow mode switch...is required ,,esp. in hill areas....
