shift cable adjustment
Hello everyone
I have a 2000 pontiac grand prix se 3.8 engine............ Is it possible to adjust the console shift cable without replacing it with a new one.... If so, how would I go about doing this procedure ??????? Could anyone help me on this................................. THANKS.............. |

The issue I am having is the shifter will not come out of park...... I can not squeeze the button on the shifter...........There is some "play" in the shifter, and when I pull back on the shifter some I can engage the button on the shifter and shift out of park..............I was thinking if I adjusted the shift cable and take the "play" out that would solve the problem..... Am I way off base on thinking this or is this a cure for the problem ?????

Ah I see. Another variation of the BTSI issue. See the link below which was one of the last major discussions we had on the subject. Some posts have the procedure to remove the shifter to do an inspection and what shifter/shift interlock components to check for wear, excessive play or alignment.
