Profiles for Transmissions?

I drive a 2000 Focus sedan in my job as an office copier technician and it is loaded to the hilt with parts and supplies (trunk, back seat and passenger front seat) The stock automatic tranny seems to be set to upshift early and that puts me in 3rd gear when I really need 2nd. If I add extra pressure on the accelerator pedal it jumps into 1st and that's real annoying. My question is, with this tranny having some degree of electronic control, can it be reprogramed with some sort of police/taxi profile to delay shifts and accomodate the fulltime extra weight this car contains?

Re: Profiles for Transmissions?

I don't know about reprogramming the trannys computer and maybe a Ford dealer or a good tranny shop could tell you. When to shift is controlled by the valve body explained here. Scroll about half way down to VALVE BODY. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_transmission

My 05 ZX3 has a lock out button on the gear shift to stop it from going into high gear good for town to keep it from surging in and out of high gear. I believe the Focus has a lock-up converter meaning basically the torque convertor engages a direct coupling at a set speed to be more efficient. If you have the gearshift button use it in town until you get on the open road then mash the button to let it up shift into overdrive. Das 'bout all I can come up with.
