New Metallica Single Streaming

So... anticipation building or dwindling? It was hinted this new Metallica would be reminiscent of thrash era Metallica, but all I hear is the heavy rock of the Bob Rock era. We'll see... still some pretty good stuff

I liked it.

Its deffinatly not true thrash, but still quite heavy in spots. The guitars are great, which is what I've always liked about Metallica. I also like the fact that this song has progressive rock influence in structure, but im sure there'll be several AABA songs on the rest of the album. The only thing I can pick out form the "Bob Rock era" was James' vocals. Cant wait to hear the rest- with better sound quality.

I agree, after listening to Dream Theater for a few years now, Lars just plain doesnt do it for me.

Well, Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy is a high standard, that guy is fucking nuts! Blitz speed double-kicks, odd time signatures, long solos... yeah, I'd say a band at the caliber of Metallica needs him as a benchmark. Lars should be focusing more on catching up to today's talents rather than focusing on record sales, illegal downloading and balding.

I just dl'ed the leaked album. here's what i gotta say...
Lars Ulrich is THE WORST drummer in metal, hands down. To make up for his slow and boring work, he adds ridiculous snare fills that 4th graders learn in school for marching band. Its too bad, cuz it really brings down the great vocals, fast thrashy (finally) guitar riffs which are really catchy, and cool bass lines. Unfortunately, the songs that are still slow and post-'Black Album' kinda hard-rock bring out the very crappy drums even more. They might as well have used a drum machine. And that song "Cyanide" is awful. There are a lot of really good songs, though. Oh well, its still better than any album they've come out with since Black. FUCK! it coulda been SO good... goddamn wrong member died in '86. It's true, unfortunately... "a band is only as good as their drummer"

I heard the new single on internet radio the other day and was not impressed. Sounds like the DID use a drum machine, but I guess then it would have been better drumming.

The guitars had more life to them on this song than any since "Black", but I never have cared much for Kirk Hammet's playing. He was much better on the earlier albums.
